Definition of Animal Rights:
Animal rights means that animals deserve certain kinds of consideration—consideration of what is in their best interests, regardless of whether they are “cute,” useful to humans, or an endangered species and regardless of whether any human cares about them at all […]. It means recognizing that animals are not ours to use—for food, clothing, entertainment, or experimentation. As found on PETA: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (http://www.peta.org/).

Children's Literature
1. A Home for Dakota by Jan Grover and Nancy Lane (2008).
Dog #241 lives in a dark crate on a puppy mill, until she is rescued and learns to trust humans again. When the puppy (now named Dakota) meets a young girl who has been as traumatized as she, healing begins for both of them.
2. A Home for Kelsey Coloring Books by Grey2k USA Education Fund.
When Connie and Bruce happen upon a truck full of greyhounds, they learn about the dark side of greyhound racing and decide to look into adopting a rescued greyhound. “A Home for Kelsey” is a simple little coloring book that raises questions about greyhound racing in an age-appropriate way and focuses primarily on the positive action of providing a good home for former racing dogs. There are very few books for younger children available on this topic, so this title helps fill that niche.
